History of Annangrove

Shire of Baulkham Hills Location: 42 kilometres north-west of Sydney between Pitt Town Road and Annangrove Road.

This suburb in the Hills District is between Kenthurst and Kellyville. It was named after Annangrove House, which was the home of Edward Charles johnston, a grandson of George Johnston, who had received a large grant in present Annandale. He named his house Annandale after his birthplace in Scotland, Annan, and his grandson likewise recalled this place when he named his home Annangrove.

The first European activity in the area was timber-getting, and land was being taken up by the 1880s, mainly for orchards. Edward Johnston had bought land here in 1893 from Bennett William Johns, who had made a conditional purchase of crown land in 1886. The post office in 1895 took the name of johnston's house, as did the school in 1896. By 1915-16 the name Annangrove was in general use for the suburb.

Cattal Creek flows through Annangrove, which retains its natural bushland setting, with homes built among existing trees.
